We have celebrated Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this week with creative activities and the planting of a commemorative magnolia tree.

All pupils learned about the importance of the milestone Her Majesty has reached after 70 years as Queen. To commemorate this special occasion, each pupil created a portrait of the Queen, using different styles and media.

The school selected a handful of portraits which now form in a ‘Royal gallery’ in the school’s entrance.

Today, members of the School Council planted a magnolia tree in the school grounds, with the support of Blair’s Gardens.

Discussing the celebrations, Katie Walsh, Year 1 Teacher and the leader of History in the school, said: “I believe it is important for the children to learn about such a significant event and participate in so many exciting activities to make this celebration so special!”

Headteacher Richard Sugden added: “It is wonderful to celebrate such a landmark event as both a school and as a College. Her Majesty, as the longest ever reigning British monarch, has given so much service to others that it is only right that we recognise such a momentous occasion.”
